Ambassador Packaging and the Environment

Environmental Policy

Ambassador Packaging and the Environment
Ambassador's main business activity involves the supply of a wide range of packaging materials to industrial markets. Packaging is often used to contain or prevent damage to the host product, therefore Ambassador is positively contributing to environmental well-being and conservation of resources. The company recognises, however, that in our day-to-day operations we inevitably impact on the environment in a number of ways and Ambassador wishes to minimise the effect these impacts wherever and whenever possible.

It is the companys aim to achieve environmental excellence through a commitment to the implementation of an Environmental Management System that meets the requirements of the ISO14001 standard. The Environmental Policy Manual sets out the mechanism for continual improvement of the EMS.

In particular, Ambassador Packaging will:
  • Actively seek and exploit technological developments in packaging materials and design that will reduce the environmental impacts of such materials, particularly with regard to end of life waste generation.
  • Comply with, and where possible exceed the requirements of all environmental legislation.
  • Seek ways to reduce waste wherever it occurs.
  • Seek ways to reduce energy consumption and air emissions.
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure prevention of pollution.
  • Regularly audit activities and monitor environmental performance to demonstrate compliance with this policy.
  • Provide information and training to all employees to encourage effective contribution to our environmental goals.
  • Make this policy and environmental information related to our products available to the public on request.
Packaging and Waste

The amount of waste we throw away keeps increasing. The Government wants to break the link between economic growthand increasing waste. Surprising as it may seem, for packaging this has already happened. The number of packaged goods placed on the market is increasing. However, the tonnage of used packaging is decreasing for two reasons:

1. Commercial and environmental considerations continuously push companies to design lighter, thinner packs.
2. We are recycling more used packaging.

But more can be done to reduce waste.Download the .pdf document 'What you need to know about packaging and waste' to find out more.

Information on packaging in the National Waste Strategies for England & Wales and Scotland can be found through the links below:

The Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 1998

This new set of Environmental Legislation requires users of packaging to take measures to ensure that they are using only the minimum amount of packaging necessary, that the packaging is reusable or recyclable and that the packaging does not exceed prescribed levels of various heavy metals.
